The newly appointed new Caretaker Minister of Petroleum Eng. Awow Daniel has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen institutional cooperation, internal coordination and effective regulation of South Sudan’s oil and gas sector following a meeting between the Ministry’s leadership, senior management and staff.
The meeting welcomed the Caretaker Minister of Petroleum and provided an opportunity to discuss institutional priorities, administrative challenges and measures to strengthen the Ministry’s performance to fulfill its mandate.
Addressing the staff and management, the Caretaker Minister emphasized that teamwork, institutional unity and effective coordination are fundamental to the successful regulation of the petroleum sector.
Eng. Awow acknowledged the need to address administrative and organizational challenges within the Ministry as a priority, noting that a strong and well-coordinated institution is essential to ensure efficient, stable and accountable performance.
The Caretaker Minister stressed that the effective functioning of the Ministry requires the integration of responsibilities across all levels of the institution, including the Office of the Undersecretary, technical advisors, Directors General, Heads of Department and the entire workforce.
He encouraged staff to work collectively and recognize their individual responsibilities as part of the Ministry’s broader institutional mandate and national obligations.
Eng. Awow further acknowledged the longstanding institutional challenges and called for a unified approach to address them, including alignment of previous initiatives to strengthen internal coordination and promotion of institutional discipline.
He emphasized that the Ministry’s responsibility extends beyond internal administration to include the effective regulation and oversight of South Sudan’s oil and gas Petroleum industry.
According to the Caretaker Minister, the effectiveness of the petroleum regulatory institution depends significantly on its ability to maintain internal cohesion, address institutional challenges and deliver tangible output for the Government and the people of South Sudan.
Eng. Awow also called for strengthened coordination and engagement between the Ministry of Petroleum and the National Legislative Assembly to address institutional challenges affecting the petroleum sector and promote constructive cooperation on matters of national interest.
Meanwhile the Undersecretary, Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar, welcomed the Caretaker Minister and expressed the Ministry’s readiness to work closely with him in advancing the institution’s mandate.
Dr. Santino noted that the reappointment of Eng. Awow Daniel Chuang reflects the extensive experience he has gained through various leadership responsibilities, including serving as Director General, Minister and Technical Advisor.
The Undersecretary assured the Caretaker Minister that the Ministry’s management team remains committed to provide the necessary institutional support, information and guidance to facilitate the effective execution of his responsibilities.
Dr. Santino further emphasized the importance of collaboration among the Ministry’s leadership, management and staff in strengthening institutional performance and advancing the Government’s objectives for the Oil Sector.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen institutional unity, coordination, accountability and collective responsibility in order to enhance the Ministry’s capacity to effectively manage and regulate South Sudan’s oil and gas sector for the national interest.
