On November 25th 2025, President of the Republic H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit relieved Eng. Deng Lual Wol and appointed Dr. Chol Deng Thon as the new undersecretary. Dr. Chol was received today in a ceremony organized by staff of the ministry. In brief remarks Dr. Chol highlights that we all work for the people of South Sudan and appointments are not privileges. It’s a responsibility and this responsibility cannot be actualized by one person. It requires a teamwork. so, all of you either from public service, South Sudan Audit Chamber, secondee from national security and police, we are all here to serve the people South Sudan under the leadership of his excellence, President Salva Kiir.
we have had some challenges in the sector for the last three years, issues in Sudan that adversely affected operation. There has been a shut down in operations in DPOC in block 5A, 1, 2 & 4 but with the dedication and hard work from your colleagues in the ministry and the JOCs they were able to contained the situation and make sure that the oil flow to the marine terminal in Port Sudan.
Dr. Chol added that it’s time to work together on the key issues of concern such as ensuring that there is a refinery in the country which will make South Sudan to be self-reliance on the Petroleum products. we also need to have the alternative routes, not only for petroleum products but also for agricultural products that are coming from upper Nile and other parts of the country. This is importantly to diversify our economy and the Petroleum is in the centre of any developmental projects in the country because this industry is the sector that the country relies on.
